Sergiy Lyovochkin: “We are seeing a political order when the government merely attempts to shift responsibility exceptionally onto one person, or only onto the central bank”

Commenting on the BYuT’s intention to dismiss Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Volodymyr Stelmakh, People's Deputy, the Party of Regions parliamentary faction Deputy Head, the NBU Head in the Opposition government Sergiy Lyovochkin marked:

- The steps made by the National Bank of Ukraine – the regulator, - are insufficient. And it is testified by the situation folded in the banking sector. The crisis has affected absolutely all spheres of the banking system operation. Liquidity is suffering, the inter-bank market is functioning inefficiently. But in this case it seems to me that we are seeing a political order when the government merely attempts to shift responsibility exceptionally onto one person, or only on the NBU.

I think that it is an improper step because the authorities should carry the responsibility for the state of affairs in the banking system on the whole, rather than only the Head of the National Bank. Therefore, I believe that the Party of Regions parliamentary faction will not participate in voting to dismiss Stelmakh.

Moreover, we will demand from the government and central bank to propose in the nearest future a system plan for getting out of the current crisis. If the matter will concern the responsibility, all should be in charge – both the government and the central bank.
