Yuriy Boyko: The situation with gas supply to Ukraine imposes a real threat

Return to the Section

People’s Deputy, the Party of Regions parliamentary faction member Yuriy Boyko stated during the TV channel ‘Rada’ live broadcast that all accusations of Prime Minister Tymoshenko against ‘RosUkrEnergo’ company are aimed only at distracting public attention from what occurred in the country on the grounds of unauthorized gas extraction:

- Since 1999 our country has not had such ‘experience’ as unauthorized extraction and uncontrolled use of gas. Unfortunately, in January of this year we encountered this case. And any explanation introduced by the governmental officials on this occasion is not worth Ukraine’s loss of an image of a reliable, predictable partner on supply and transit of energy carriers to Europe.

The Government of Viktor Yanukovych left for the new Government a valid contract on gas supply and transit between economic units, gas cost on the border being $179,5 per one thousand cubic meters, money being held on the State Treasure accounts to pay for gas supply. From December 15 till 20 this money was to be transmitted to pay for cost of gas received in November. But money disappeared, contracts were not prolonged, no documents available. President Yushchenko said not in vain that three billions hryvnyas, due to be paid for gas, had vanished. And when prime minister declared that she did not know whose gas the state was using, it is obvious that the Russian partners set an issue of black-out at least until this question will be arranged.

A situation with gas supply to Ukraine imposes a real threat. I consider that President Yushchenko’s visit to Moscow was in time because Russia would obviously halt this supply.
As for government officials’ statements concerning the fact that ‘RosUkrEnergo’ has to be removed from fulfilling intermediary functions, we will welcome any decision of the Government aimed at decrease of today's incoming gas price to our country. We want the Government to do something useful for Ukraine in the sphere of providing energy carriers for the state.

Permanent Tymoshenko’s accusations against ‘RosUkrEnergo’ in corruption for gas supply are groundless. All this fuss is aimed at one thing - at distracting public attention from what occurs in the country on the grounds of unauthorized gas extraction. Because debts entailed by these actions are to be paid. Time will come when due date expires and the guilty in that the country had not settled up debts in advance which are now accumulating, are to be revealed.
