‘The main suppliers of energy resources have grave alternatives given increasing demand. Ukraine is the most direct way from gas and oil fields of Siberia to Europe’, - stated People’s Deputy of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko today in Brussels in his speech at the 10th meeting of the EU-Ukraine parliamentary collaboration committee.

At that he warned that ‘insufficiently considered actions in relationship with the Russian Federation could raise an issue of a possible change of directions of the energy carriers transit flows - to East, to Asiatic countries, which are ready to the expansion of this market. The already signed contracts on supplying 50 million tonnes of oil and 40 billion cubic metres of gas to China testify to this’.

Boyko describes the current situation as a competition of transit capacities on pumping oil and gas and cites as an example such fact that ‘company PetroChina by third quarter of next year is going to start purchasing large volumes of gas in Turkmenistan, in subsequent five years this amount will make for 30 billion of cubic meters a year. By now China has launched construction of a pipeline to connect Turkmenistan fields with Sinczyan-Uygurskiy autonomous district. The construction of the ‘Eastern Siberia - Pacific ocean’ pipeline is planned to be completed by 2009’, it will very soon become a reality’.
