Viktor Yanukovych: We have never been engaged in political populism
Speaking to journalists during today's working visit to Donetsk region, the Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych stated that the Party of Regions members had not negotiated on the early parliamentary elections with any political force.
"We have been never engaged in political populism", Viktor Yanukovych stressed out. Then he added that before talking about the pre-term parliamentary elections, a consensus within the current Parliament should be reached.
According to V.Yanukovych, 300 deputies have to be united in order to make alterations to the Constitution. "As soon as this goal is reached, we could enter the elections, and under new conditions form the responsible authorities and build the legal state", the Party of Regions Leader declared.
In the PoR parliamentary faction chairman’s opinion, the constitutional process should consolidate the structural, progressive political forces which are able to “subordinate their political and private ambitions to the country’s interests”. He assured that the Party of Regions will be an active participant of the constitutional process.
He also said that the clauses concerning referendums on various subjects should be elaborated in a new Constitution draft.
In particular, according to V.Yanukovych, a bill on making alterations to the Constitution, drafted by the PoR faction, will envisage the possibility to conduct All-Ukrainian referendum on parliament dismissal, “if it fails to function”, as well as a referendum on the president’s impeachment.
"But the most important is to reach consensus among the political forces which will be able to pass the necessary changes to the Constitution", Viktor Yanukovych marked. According to him, he believes that such consensus can be reached. At least, the Party of Regions will make every effort for it.
