Viktor Yanukovych: I have always asserted and will assert Ukraine’s interests
Communicating with journalists in the corridors of Verkhovna Rada, the Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych, answering the question about possible cooperation with the BYUT leader, underlined that the key priority for the Party of Regions and for him personally as for the Head of the Party was not personal relations, but the state’s interests.
"I have considerable experience of working at different levels with people, and I do not see absolutely any obstacle to it. I worked with Yushchenko when I was the Prime Minister and he was the President. Ask him whether we had many problems or not. Anytime when the matter concerns the state’s interests, I take up the only position, and it is of principle: I have always asserted and will assert Ukraine’s interests", Viktor Yanukovych underlined.
As for professionalism of work of ruling parties, the Party of Regions Leader marked that he learnt from his experience that it is always necessary to consult with specialists, and consultations should be made only by experts.
"A person just cannot know everything, but they should learn and listen to people’s opinion. Nevertheless, as for decision-making, it is worth remembering that there are a lot of issues to be approved collectively. Today Ukraine is experiencing a time when "no" should never be said. Some political parties have made more than once such loud statements about impossibility of collaboration with other political forces", Viktor Yanukovych said, adding thereafter that he had always skeptically viewed such things.
"I have never done so and always termed it as a farce or political populism. I have always viewed it calmly. They (opponents – Ed.) have not understood that when they make such statements, they say "no" to a very large part of voters of Ukraine who support the Party of Regions", the Party of Regions Leader mentioned in particular.
Viktor Yanukovych also pointed out that such slogans regarded not so much certain individuals but the people who were united by a great deal of issues of the country’s performance.
"Over the past years which we passed together, our unity (I mean myself, our voters and the party activists) has fortified", Viktor Yanukovych noted.
